Firefighter suffers major injuries in Tulare County

A Cal Fire firefighter suffered major injuries Friday night after a tree fell, striking him and two others, Cal Fire Capt. Ryan Michaels said.

Firefighters had responded to a wildland fire at Case Mountain near Three Rivers about 2 p.m. Firefighters were in the process of putting out the fire when the tree fell.

The firefighter, whose name was not released, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno and was listed in stable condition, Michaels said.

Two inmate firefighters with the California Department of Corrections were also hurt. Their injuries were minor, and they were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The two-acre fire was contained, Michaels said.
