Fresno County crash kills driver off I-5, CHP says. The car rolled down an embankment
A 38-year-old Mendota man was killed just off of Interstate 5 when his car was struck by a big rig in Fresno County, California Highway Patrol confirmed Friday.
The big rig hit a 2002 Honda at about noon Thursday near the Nees Avenue off-ramp on the northbound side of the highway, killing the Honda driver, CHP said. His name was not available pending the notification of next of kin.
A Hyundai driver, a 17-year-old from Los Angeles, entered the intersection after stopping at a stop sign on the northbound off-ramp of I-5, CHP said.
The Honda, which was headed west on Nees Avenue, hit the Hyundai before it was broadsided by the big rig headed in the opposite direction, CHP said.
The Honda left the roadway and rolled down an embankment, CHP said.
The teen and the big rig driver, a 30-year-old from Fresno, did not report any injuries, CHP said.
The man in the Honda was pronounced dead at the scene.
