Television news team shakeup at ABC30 in Fresno. Familiar face returns to mornings
When Jason Oliveira moved from ABC30’s AM Live news team in 2016, it didn’t sit well with some viewers.
One went so far as to create a Change.org petition to have the sportscaster-turned-news anchor reinstated in the job.
“I think Jason is absolutely the funniest and wittiest news anchor I have seen on TV,” one person wrote on the petition.
“Dumb move ABC,” wrote another.
On Monday, the Tulare native made his return to the AM Live team — a move that came with new station promos declaring “He’s Back.”
Olveira replaces Landon Burke, a Missouri native who came to the station in 2020. In late July, Burke announced he would be leaving the station, though he only hinted at any future plans.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Burke wrote, “These last few years, our community has navigated a global pandemic, massive wildfires and extraordinary social movements. Thank you all for welcoming me to Central California and for starting each morning with me. I will always remember my time here and I am so grateful to all of you for making it so special.
“I’ll share details on my next move as soon as I can.”
Oliveria joins AM Live co-hosts Amanda Venegas and Madeline Evans.
The team’s coverage runs weekdays starting at 4:30 a.m.
