UPS truck goes off Fresno highway embankment, lands on its side. What caused crash?

Here’s something you don’t always see.

And it happened along a busy Fresno highway.

A UPS delivery truck ended up on its side Thursday night after going off an embankment along Highway 41.

What caused the truck to crash?

It happened just before 8:30 p.m. on southbound Highway 41.

Fresno Police said the UPS truck driver was traveling on the right lane of the freeway and nearing the McKinley Avenue exit when a vehicle in front him suddenly stalled after a rear tire popped off.

That stalled vehicle did not pull over to the shoulder.

For reasons not immediately known, though, the UPS truck driver tried to avoid the stalled vehicle by driving onto the shoulder rather than change into the middle lane.

The UPS truck hit the side of the sedan, which had a person inside, then went tumbling down an embankment before landing on the passenger’s side of the vehicle.

Police said there were no injuries.

The UPS driver was seen walking around the scene of the accident following the crash.

Police were in the process of trying to get the stalled sedan off the highway still late Thursday night, as well as get the UPS truck towed.
