Sanger man ID’d in Fresno County fatal crash involving bike and big rig, coroner says

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office named the 33-year-old man killed while riding his bicycle on a road just outside the city of Fresno this week.

Alfonso Sanchez of Sanger was on his bike riding east on Jensen Avenue near De Wolf Avenue when he was struck from behind by a big rig, the coroner’s office confirmed.

The California Highway Patrol said he swerved left in front of the big rig as it approached. It was unclear why, CHP said.

Sanchez was thrown from the bike and pronounced dead from his injuries at the scene, CHP said. He was not wearing a helmet.

The big rig driver, a 24-year-old Corcoran man, cooperated with officers, CHP said.
