Fatal fire kills one in Tower District home, Fresno crew says. Another was injured
One person was killed and another injured in a Tower District house fire that began around midnight.
The fatal fire on Thorne near Olive avenues was reported at 12:04 a.m. Wednesday and as crews arrived flames shot up from the roof as much as 30 feet, Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless said.
Black smoke also wafted throughout the neighborhood, he said.
Both the person killed and the person injured were male, he said, but he did not immediately provide ages for either. The injured resident had a laceration to his arm and was taken to an area hospital.
Fire crews had some trouble getting into the home because of its design.
“The house was configured strangely with some additions and add-ons,” he said. “That made it more difficult to get access and get to the seed of the fire and put it out.”
Ten fire apparatuses were on scene as well as 40 firefighters, Wanless said. The cause of the fire was still under investigation.
