Want to see fireworks this Independence Day? Here are 4th of July displays around Fresno

Fire departments around the central San Joaquin Valley have been warning residents against the use of illegal fireworks in celebration of the Fourth of July holiday.

The city of Selma will “continue an aggressive campaign against the use of illegal fireworks within the city limits,” and it has adopted an ordinance that allows fines to be given to property owners. Fresno also upped its enforcement of illegal fireworks this year and increased the amount of possible fines up to $5,000.

Luckily, there is no shortage of legal alternatives for those who want to see the big booms this Independence Day weekend. We’ve got a short list.

High schools and community events

Selma will host an Independence Day celebration at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at Selma High School Stadium. The fireworks start around 9:20 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $2 for children 4-12. Those under 4 are free. Parking is $2.

Kingsburg’s Independence Day fireworks show also happens Sunday. The show runs 6-10 p.m. at the high school stadium. Tickets are $5, though the chamber of commerce is taking donations. You can text “give” to 844-531-0596.

Fowler hosts its 4th of July Fireworks Show as a celebration of (and fundraiser for) the city’s 150th anniversary. The show happens 6 p.m. Monday at the Fowler High School football field. Fireworks start at 9 p.m. Tickets $10-$15.

In Madera, a 4th of July Spectacular was set for 5 p.m. Monday at the Madera District Fairgrounds. It has since been canceled after its fireworks contractor, Exposhows, Inc., had its display permit revoked by the state. The associated golf tournament will continue as planned.

The Kiwanis Club of Clovis hosts its annual Freedom Fest celebration, starting at 5 p.m. Monday at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium at Buchanan High School, with fireworks at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5.

Fireworks over the lakes

The Great Shaver Lake Visitors Bureau hosts its annual fireworks show on Saturday. The fireworks will start between 8 and 8:30 p.m. and will be shot from Honeymoon Island (if you have a view of the island, you will see the show). Shaver’s annual boat parade starts at 6 p.m. at the marina.

Bass Lake’s fireworks show and boat parade will happen Monday, July 4. The parade starts at 7 p.m. with fireworks at 9 p.m. between the the Pines and Forks resorts. The Pines Resort is offering a buffet dinner with live music and various seating options to watch the show.

Baseball and water parks

Fresno’s Granite Park sports complex will have an Independence Day Celebration and fireworks show in conjunction with a two-day baseball tournament July 2-3. The Saturday event is free after 7 p.m.

The Fresno Grizzlies love firework shows. The baseball club hosts its biggest, the July 4th Fireworks Extravaganza, following the final out in a game against the San Jose Giants on Monday. Game time is 6:35 p.m. Tickets start at $15.

Fireworks explode in the sky during a Fourth of July fireworks show at Chukchansi Park following a game between the Fresno Grizzlies and Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Grizzlies won the game 2-1. There are two more fireworks shows scheduled for Saturday and Sunday’s games.
