Heading to the coast? Highway 41 will be fully closed, so get ready for a detour

Road work

Drivers heading to and from the Central Coast, take note: On Wednesday, a key stretch of Highway 41 will be fully closed from the Cholame “Y” to the intersection with Highway 33.

The closure, which is for a paving project, will last from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will force motorists heading to the coast to take a triangle-shaped detour out Highway 33 South to Highway 46 West, according to Caltrans.

Caltrans is paving the road for “a smoother ride for everyone,” spokeswoman Alexa Bertola said in a news release.

The southbound detour on Highway 41 is just south of Kettleman City, according to Bertola.

“Caltrans reminds motorists to move over and slow down while driving through highway construction zones,” Bertola said.

Both directions of Highway 41 near Shandon will be closed on Wednesday, June 22 due to a paving project. Drivers can detour on Highway 46 East to State Route 33 North and hop back on the 41 just south of Kettleman City.
