Update: Police identify gang member arrested after chase and standoff in Fresno neighborhood

Fresno Police identified a man taken into custody Saturday after he eluded officers in an incident that resulted in a standoff that lasted through the night.

The man in custody is Eddie Serna, 36, who is a Bulldog gang member, according to Lt. Bill Dooley.

Serna, who police said has “an extensive criminal history” that included domestic violence, gun charges, and narcotics, was booked on a probation violation Friday night.

Serna reportedly failed to stop when MAGEC (Multi-Agency Gang Enforcement Consortium) officers tried to pull him over about 7 p.m. Friday.

Officers did not pursue, but he was tracked by a police helicopter.

He collided with a motorist at Weber and Olive avenues, ran from the car and hid in a detached garage.

Dooley said he left a loaded .40 caliber handgun behind and refused to leave the garage until the department’s SWAT team came to the scene.

Police surrounded a duplex near Delno and Hedges avenues in central Fresno, where MAGEC officers remained early Saturday morning.

Police had cleared the scene by mid-morning Saturday.
