Pedestrian dies after running onto a Fresno highway. A doctor stopped to try to help

A man was struck and killed while trying to run across Highway 180 late Sunday morning near Blackstone Avenue in Fresno, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The pedestrian was standing on the north shoulder about 11 a.m. when he darted into the roadway and into the path of a Dodge Ram 1500 pickup traveling west in the No. 2 lane.

A passing doctor stopped at the scene and performed CPR on the man, who was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The pedestrian’s name has not been released.

Traffic backed up in the area amid the investigation, but all lanes were reported reopened by 11:41 a.m.
