A student at Lowell Elementary in central Fresno faces discipline after firing a BB gun and striking another student Tuesday, Fresno Unified School District officials reported.

Police responded to the school near Poplar and Belmont avenues and confiscated the BB gun, said Fresno Unified spokesperson Nikki Henry. She said the incident came to light after several students alerted a “trusted adult” that the student had the weapon and had fired it at another student.

“Appropriate disciplinary action is being taken,” said Henry. “The student impacted is physically OK, and the school site is ensuring the student has social-emotional supports.

“A message is being sent to parents to inform them of the incident and encourage important conversations at home about why weapons of any kind are not OK at school.”
