Clovis woman killed in head-on crash. The CHP said she was driving the wrong way

A Clovis woman was killed early Saturday when the car she was driving the wrong direction on a Fresno County road collided head-on with another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol said.

The 22-year-old woman’s name was not released, pending notification of her family. She was pronounced dead at the crash on Clovis Avenue, south of Central Avenue – near Malaga, southeast of Fresno.

Her Nissan Altima struck a Toyota RAV4 driven by Ramon Vasquez, 32, of Visalia, who suffered major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

The crash happened about 5:30 a.m.

A preliminary investigation shows the 22-year-old was traveling south in the No. 1 northbound lane of Clovis Avenue at an unknown speed when she collided head-on with Vasquez’s vehicle, the CHP stated.

The Nissan overturned and came to rest partially in the lane and on the center divider.

The CHP said the woman wasn’t wearing a seat belt. It’s not yet known if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision, according to the CHP, pending toxicology results from the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
