Kerman residents asked to boil water — ‘slight’ potential of contamination in city’s supply
The city of Kerman has issued a water boil advisory due to a ”slight potential for bacteriological contamination.”
Water customers are being asked to use bottled water or boil tap water for at least one minute before using it for cooking or drinking.
The advisory is expected to run through Friday, pending the results of water contamination tests, but residents should continue to boil water until notified.
According to a statement from the city, the advisory was required by the State Water Resources Control Board after a power outage on Wednesday caused a loss of pressure across the the entire water distribution system. The low pressure allowed for the possibility of bacteria entering the water system.
There has been no confirmation of any contamination, but because the water quality is unknown, residents are being asked to boil water as “a safety precaution to avoid stomach or intestinal illness,” the release said.
