In advance of National Police Week, 3 names added to Fresno’s Peace Officer Memorial
Members of various law enforcement agencies in Fresno County gathered at Courthouse Park on Thursday to honor the memories of those killed in the line of duty.
The ceremony came in advance of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, which pays tribute to local, state and federal law enforcement officers. Officers will wear black bands over their badges next week.
In Fresno, every in-the-line-of-duty death from all law enforcement agencies within Fresno County dating back to 1889 have been recorded on the Peace Officers Memorial, which sits inside the park.
Three names were added in 2022.
Fresno County Sheriff’s Office Detective Jose Mora and Fresno Police officers Angel De La Fuente and Sgt. Paul Brown all died over the past two years of complications of COVID-19. Because public ceremonies weren’t held in 2020 and 2021, they were honored at Thursday’s ceremony.
The names of 63 men and women have been etched into the granite face of the memorial since it went up in 1998.
