Fresno expecting rain this week and up to a foot of snow in some mountain areas
A storm system is expected to bring rain to California’s central San Joaquin Valley and significant snowfall to the Sierra Nevada later this week.
Areas in the Central Valley such as Fresno and Visalia are expected to receive around a quarter to half an inch of rainfall between Thursday morning and Friday night, according to Meteorologist Felix Castro with the National Weather Service in Hanford.
Madera, Oakhurst, and Mariposa are expected to receive a half to a full inch of rain, while Shaver Lake and Yosemite Valley should get an inch to an inch and a half of rainfall.
Snow is expected at elevations around 6,000 feet Thursday, dropping to about 5,000 feet by Friday morning. Most of the rainfall is expected Thursday.
Areas around Tioga Pass and Mammoth Lakes are expected to receive 8 to 12 inches of snowfall between Thursday and Friday.
Felix said temperatures in the Fresno area are expected to drop throughout the week, with Monday starting in the lower 80s and falling to the low to mid-70s throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
Highs from Thursday through Friday are expected to remain in the low 70s and upper 60s.
