A shipping container of supplies from Fresno to Ukraine is en route to the war-torn nation, as the Community Regional Medical Center nurse who organized the effort said he is assessing what to include in the next relief package.

Mykhaylo Skitsak, the organizer, said he is leaning toward medical supplies to aid citizens and military personnel injured in fighting with Russian forces.

He spoke as officials in Ukraine were still assessing casualties at the Kramatorsk railway station, where a Russian missile exploded, reportedly killing at least 50 people and wounding more than 100.

In a collection effort started on March 28 and ending April 2, Fresnans donated first aid kits, clothing, sleeping bags, flashlights, diapers, and other items to the relief effort at the collection site downtown.

Cash was also accepted through the Donate International site.

Skitsak said some refugees from the fighting are en route to Fresno, and he knows of one family that has arrived.
