Man drowns while swimming in Lake Yosemite, another was rushed to hospital

Drowning incident depicts emergency personnel in boats on water

A man drowned and another man was hospitalized after they were both pulled from the water at Lake Yosemite on Sunday afternoon, the Merced County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies received reports at around 2:15 p.m. of a man at Lake Yosemite drowning in the water, according to Sheriff’s spokesperson Daryl Allen.

Allen said that the two men were swimming in the lake when one of them went underwater. The second man then attempted to save him but began to struggle in the water.

People nearby were able to pull the first man out of the water and began giving him CPR before he was taken to a Merced hospital. His condition was unknown.

The Merced County Sheriff’s Water Rescue and Recovery Team was called to locate the second man. Divers were able to recover the man and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
