Millions in federal dollars coming to Fresno, Tulare counties. Here’s what the money’s for
Four separate public improvement projects in Fresno and Tulare counties are among more than 30 across the Central Valley and northern California that will receive money from the 2022 government funding bill approved by Congress this week.
The $1.5 trillion omnibus spending bill approved by the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate includes direct funds amounting to $69 million for specific efforts in California, U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein said in a statement Thursday.
In Fresno and Tulare counties, those include:
- $2 million for an ongoing terminal expansion project at Fresno Yosemite International Airport to improve passenger safety while boarding and disembarking. The first stage of the expansion, dubbed FATForward, was a new four-level parking garage that opened last fall, built at a cost of about $29 million. Overall, the project is estimated at $115 million with construction on the terminal add-ons expected to begin this year.
- $665,000 for the Healthy Food Hub’s Urban Heat Island Mitigation project and Edible Food Rescue and Distribution project to expand services. Both projects involve transforming the former Farmer John meat company warehouse on South Elm Avenue in south Fresno into a food distribution hub and commercial kitchen operations center.
- $3.1 million for the Earlimart Public Utility District in southern Tulare County for two separate projects: $2.1 million for a water-well treatment improvement project, and $1.3 million for a sewer relief project.
Other areas receiving money from the bill are one project each in Calaveras, Del Norte and El Dorado counties; one in Inyo County; four in Merced County; three in Nevada County; two in Placer County; eight in Sacramento County; one in San Joaquin County; two in Solano County; one in Yolo County; and two in Yuba County.
