Update: Residents of 3 units displaced after fire spreads at Fresno apartment building
Multiple people are expected to be displaced after a fire damaged three units in a central Fresno apartment building, according to a battalion chief.
Reports of the fire came in at about 9:15 a.m. and the initial investigation found a neighbor saw flames burning on the outside of one unit on the southeast corner of Cedar and Dakota avenues, according to Battalion Chief Kirk Wanless.
One person was home in the middle apartment of a single-story building of three units, Wanless said. It appears a neighbor knocked on the door to warn the person inside, he said.
Fire crews arrived in about five minutes and were able to keep the flames inside the single unit, but it spread into the attic of all three apartments, he said.
Though an exact count was not immediately available, Wanless said there were likely multiple people living in each of the three units who will be displaced.
No injuries had been reported as of about 10 a.m.
