Looking to get back at an ex? Madera Police think they have Valentine’s special for you
Madera Police haven’t found any takers for a Valentine’s Day special, but, Sgt. Mark Adams said Sunday, there’s still a little time.
The department on Friday posted on Facebook a Valentine’s Day weekend special that was way too good to be true: “Does your ex-Valentine have any outstanding felony warrants? Give us a call with their location for a special holiday offer.,” the post read.
The special “includes free transportation with a top-of-the-line chauffeur, a stay in luxurious accommodations, professional glamour shots guaranteed to get their good side and to top off the night with a gourmet meal. We know this special is so incredible you may be tempted to provide additional referrals..”
The post also featured heart-shaped handcuffs.
While some might question the appropriateness of the scheme, maybe even suggesting it’s a little tacky, the agency insists that it is just trying to be funny — although only to a point. If someone wants to take them up on the offer, they aren’t about to say no.
“It’s kind of fun,” Adams said. “Instead of it always just being something negative or a police-related context, it’s kind of humorous and breaks it up a little bit, but also lets people know if they know someone with a felony warrant you can give us a call and we’ll be happy to take care of that.”
And who better to make that call than a scorned ex, who may prefer this over the typical flowers and a box of candy.
“People have all kinds of reasons to report different people,” Adams said. “And, why not start Valentine’s Day with a clean record? You don’t want any felony warrants hanging over your head.”
The Madera department was not the only one in the country to make the offer, but whether or not it gets lucky on Valentine’s Day, the post was well received by those who offered up replies.
Among the responses via Facebook:
▪ “Way to go MPD!! Love social media for the greater good!!!”
▪ “Do y’all take baby daddies to? Asking for myself.”
▪ “I love this! You guys are awesome and hilarious!”
And ...
▪ “No she doesn’t but can you take her anyway.”
As the police post concluded ... “Dispatchers are standing by!”
