Update: Fresno woman ID’d as victim in fatal suspected DUI crash near Madera County casino
The California Highway Patrol was investigating a possible DUI crash Thursday in Madera County that killed a Fresno woman the night before, according to officers.
A Fresno couple was headed home from Chukchansi Gold Resort and Casino about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the solo-vehicle crash on Highway 41 near Road 406, the CHP reported.
For an unclear reason, the 63-year-old man driving overcorrected and lost control while southbound on Highway 41, CHP said. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and overturned.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP said.
She was identified Thursday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Khayriyyah Jones, 41, of Fresno.
The man was taken to an area hospital with major injuries, and his name was not available while officers continue investigating, CHP said Thursday.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, according to CHP.
