Fire causes extensive damage to Fresno home. What arriving firefighters found

A home in the Sunnyside area of Fresno was extensively damaged Tuesday morning when it erupted in flames, the Fresno Fire Department reported.

Spokesman Jonathan Lopez said units were dispatched to the blaze near Fowler and Butler avenues mid-morning, and initially found smoke roiling from the large house at Rancho Avenue and Butler. Neighbors were outside, but no one was inside the structure, it was determined after a search.

A portion of the roof collapsed during the fire, and Lopez said the total damage was being assessed.
