Two people were taken to a hospital Thursday morning after a fire erupted behind a home in central Fresno.

The blaze broke out in an outbuilding behind the home on North Broadway Street near East Franklin Avenue about 10:15 a.m., sending towering clouds of black smoke skyward. Fresno Fire Department spokesman Jonathan Lopez said the building was a garage that had been converted into a game room.
