Woman killed in collision that shut down southbound Highway 99 in Fresno
A woman was killed in a collision that caused a closure of all lanes of southbound Highway 99 Sunday night in Fresno.
Lt. Mike Salas said the collision occurred around 6 p.m. A woman with a rolling suitcase was attempting to cross the highway near Belmont Avenue when a vehicle struck the suitcase sending her belongings flying. The woman then tried to collect her belongings on the highway when she was struck by a second vehicle.
She was pronounced dead at the scene. Salas said that the southbound lanes near Belmont were closed for 90 minutes as officers investigated the scene.
Caltrans said that traffic on the highway was backed up for two miles.
