Where’s Fresno’s worst holiday traffic nightmare? Weigh in with our poll

Fresno may not have the same kind of infamous rush-hour traffic nightmares that drivers find on freeways on the San Francisco Peninsula or the Los Angeles Basin.

(We’re looking at you, Highway 101 through San Francisco and the 405 freeway in Los Angeles.)

But as California’s fifth-largest city, and with more than 770,000 cars, trucks and motorcycles registered in Fresno County, local drivers can experience some of the same frustration with stop-and-go traffic that can turn normally busy stretches of pavement into veritable parking lots – right when they’re trying to get to work or get home after a long day.

And some areas get even more clogged with traffic during the hectic holiday season.

So we’re asking Fresno Bee readers to help identify Fresno’s worst traffic hot spots. After an initial call on social media for “nominations” for the honor, we’ve compiled this poll of the most-frequently mentioned areas of vehicular consternation.

If you can’t see the poll above, try turning off your ad blocker.

Whether it’s the McKinley Curve on Highway 41 through central Fresno, or intersections near the River Park, Villagio or Universal Park shopping centers on North Blackstone Avenue, or stretches of Shaw Avenue near the Fresno Fashion Fair mall or the Fresno State campus, let us know your choices.

There’s also an “other” choice if your pet peeve isn’t on the list, and you can let me know by email at tsheehan@fresnobee.com.

The poll will remain open until 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, and there’s no limit on how many times you can vote. This is an unscientific poll, and there’s no trophy for the winner. But the poll results will be published after the first of the year, and your answers will provide a springboard for reporting into what potential options might be available by traffic planners to reduce congestion in the more notorious locations or areas.

We appreciate your participation.
