Woman fatally struck in east-central Fresno. Officers found her on the sidewalk

A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday evening in east-central Fresno.

The incident happened at 6 p.m. at East McKinley and North Maple avenues, where it appeared that the woman was crossing McKinley from south to north and didn’t use the crosswalk, Fresno police Lt. Brian Pierce said.

A vehicle, described as a large SUV, was traveling westbound on McKinley Avenue when the driver struck the woman.

Officers arrived and located the woman lying on the sidewalk on the north side of McKinley. Officers rendered aid on the woman, who was in her early 30s.

She was then taken to Community Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The driver remained on scene and was cooperating with officers, police said.

Fresno PD’s collision reconstruction unit was called to the scene to put together where the woman was struck.
