Fire at central Fresno apartments leaves at least 10 people seeking temporary shelter
At least 10 people are displaced after a two-alarm fire broke out Friday night at a central Fresno fourplex.
Crews responded about 5:30 p.m. to reports of the blaze in the area of Cedar and Home avenues, according to Fresno Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Price.
Firefighters arrived and found one apartment of the fourplex heavily involved in flames. Crews worked to knock down the fire to prevent it from spreading to the other units.
The majority of the damage was limited to the initial unit, Price said, but the occupants — at least 10 people — of all four apartments were displaced due to fire and smoke damage.
One man, a neighbor, was taken to Community Regional Medical Center because of smoke inhalation.
The man had rushed into the unit to make sure everyone had gotten out, Price said. His condition was unknown.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
