Fire breaks out ‘through the roof’ at northeast Fresno car dealership

The Fresno Fire Department responded Wednesday night to a two-alarm fire at a car dealership in northeast Fresno.

The fire started around 10 p.m. at the Fresno Chrysler Dodger Jeep Ram dealership near Blackstone and Escalon avenues, Fresno Fire Battalion Chief Sean Johnson said.

Johnson said a janitor was at the facility and heard a loud explosion and went inside the repair facility and noticed a van on fire.

Crews arrived in three minutes and saw fire through the roof and called a two-alarm. Two cars were damaged and crews limited the damaged just to the auto shop, Johnson said. The car dealership wasn’t damaged.

“We were challenged because it was after hours and the cars were dispersed around the parking lot that didn’t allow our fire trucks to get access to the fire in a timely fashion,” Johnson said.

A tow truck had been requested to move vehicles blocking access.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
