Two-alarm blaze burns vacant building in east-central Fresno, closing McKinley Avenue

A vacant building was burned in a two-alarm fire in east-central Fresno on Monday afternoon.

According to Battalion Chief Bob Camp, at around 3:11 p.m. Fresno Fire received reports of smoke seen coming from the roof of a structure on the corner of McKinley and Helm avenues.

Crews arrived and found fire spreading from the roof into the attic of the building. Crews worked immediately to get the fire under control.

Camp said that the building appeared to be vacant and is known to have homeless people come in and out of the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Westbound McKinley was closed to traffic while firefighters contained the blaze.
