The party’s over. Balloons hit Fresno County power line, cutting power for 990

PG&E workers were sent to Kerman Friday morning after a cluster of three mylar party balloons floated into a power line, killing electrical power to 990 residents in the area.

Spokesman Denny Boyles said the incident was reported about 8:30 a.m. near Seventh Street and Kearney Boulevard in the western Fresno County city.

In initial reports, the power line fell across a house, igniting several small fires, and firefighters escorted at least one person from the home.

Utility companies and fire officials repeatedly warn residents of the dangers of mylar ballons released to float into the air.
