One killed in motorcycle crash at busy Fresno intersection. Here’s the latest

The rider of a Yamaha sport bike died early Sunday in a high-speed crash at East Shaw and North Cedar avenues, Fresno police reported.

The crash took place about 5:30 a.m., and it appeared that the rider ran a red light while westbound on Shaw, said police. The rider slammed into a vehicle towing a trailer containing band equipment, knocking the wheel off the trailer and snapping the forks completely off the motorcycle.

Police were waiting to check video evidence of the crash from nearby cameras. The rider will be identified by the Fresno County Coroner.

Westbound Shaw was shut down from Cedar for about one-half mile as the police Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the scene.
