Taking a trip? Southwest’s arrival gives Fresno flyers more nonstop, one-stop options
The seven domestic airlines that offer passenger flights from Fresno Yosemite International Airport collectively offer nonstop service to 11 destinations across the western U.S.
The latest of those, Southwest Airlines, launched its newest routes on Sunday with flights to Denver and Las Vegas.
And while none of the airlines’ flights currently venture to airports east of Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, the major hubs among those cities provide a jumping-off point for travelers to reach hundreds of other cities across the U.S. and the world with a single stop or layover.
Those domestic nonstop destination airports from Fresno include:
- Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, with nonstop flights by United Airlines and, on a seasonal basis, American Airlines.
- Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, with nonstop flights by American Airlines.
- Denver International Airport, with nonstop flights by United and Southwest airlines, as well as three-day-a-week service by Frontier Airlines.
- Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport, with nonstop flights by Allegiant Air and Southwest Airlines.
- Los Angeles International Airport, with nonstop flights by Alaska Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United.
- Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, with nonstop flights by American Airlines.
- Portland International Airport in Oregon, with nonstop flights by Alaska Airlines.
- Salt Lake City International Airport, with nonstop flights by Delta Air Lines.
- San Diego International Airport, with nonstop flights by Alaska Airlines.
- San Francisco International Airport, with nonstop flights by United Airlines.
- Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, with nonstop flights by Alaska Airlines and, starting in late May, once-a-week service from Delta Air Lines.
Those are in addition to Mexico-based airlines Aeromexico and Volaris, which put the “international” in the Fresno airport’s name with nonstop flights to Guadalajara, León, Morelia and Mexico City.
Collectively, the domestic airlines that fly at least one daily flight from Fresno to multiple nonstop destinations – Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines – have other flights from those cities to connect with other nonstop flights to more than 300 other places, including the East Coast, Hawaii, Europe, South America, the Middle East, Asia, Australia and the South Pacific.
That’s not to say the layovers are necessarily convenient or short, particularly those connections to myriad small communities across the country that may only have one or two flights a day – if even that frequent. And those connecting nonstop flights may not be exactly intuitive – it takes a certain temperament, after all, to fly thousands of miles east from Fresno to jump on another nonstop flight thousands of miles to the west, as one could do if you choose to go to Maui, for instance, by way of Dallas, Chicago or Salt Lake City.
But there are more reasonable options for travelers who investigate airlines’ flight schedules to see what makes the most sense and which airline has the best deal.
Explore the interactive map below to see the various cities, large and small, across the U.S. and around the world where one-stop connections are possible when flying from Fresno. Information was gathered by searching individual airlines’ websites for nonstop routes originating from the hubs that receive nonstop flights from Fresno.
