Fresno, Madera, Kings and Tulare counties have opened cooling centers where residents can go to beat the intense summer heat.

According to the National Weather Service, the high in Fresno on Saturday will be 103 degrees, cooling slightly to 100 on Sunday. Temperatures early in the coming work week will fall into the 90s before heating up next weekend into the triple digits.

Here is a rundown on cooling center locations and times they are open for the four counties:

Fresno County

▪ Fresno, Ted C. Willis Community Center: 770 N. San Pablo Ave., south of Olive Avenue near the Tower District

▪ Fresno, Frank H. Ball Neighborhood Center: 760 Mayor St. in west Fresno

▪ Fresno, Mosqueda Community Center: 4670 E. Butler Ave. in southeast Fresno

▪ Fresno, Pinedale Community Center: 7170 N. San Pablo Ave. near River Park shopping center

▪ Fresno, Romain Neighborhood Park: 745 N. First St., south of Highway 180, east of Highway 41 and north of Belmont

FAX gives free bus rides to and from the centers.

▪ Clovis, Sierra Vista Mall: 1050 Shaw Ave., corner of Clovis and Shaw Avenues, Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-8 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Free ride on Clovis Stageline/Clovis Roundup (559) 324-2760 when temperature forecast is 105 degrees or more; inform driver you’re going to cooling center.

▪ Kerman, Scout Hut-Kerckoff Park: 4th & E St., Monday - Friday 12 p.m.-9 p.m., call (559) 846-4809 or (559) 846-9383 to have facility opened.

▪ Kerman Senior Center: 720 Eighth St., Monday-Friday 7 a.m -4 p.m.

▪ Kerman Branch Library: 15081 W. Kearney Blvd., Monday-Wednesday 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Thursday 12 p.m.-8 p.m., Friday 1-5 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

Transportation is available through Kerman Dial-A-Ride Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m. There will be no charge on the Dial-A-Ride system for riders to cooling centers. Riders must advise dispatch when scheduling pick-up that they desire to be taken to a cooling center. Residents may contact Dial-A-Ride at (559) 846-7914.

▪ Mendota City Council Chambers: 643 Quince St., Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

▪ Reedley, Sierra Vista Homes Retirement Community: 1155 E. Springfield Ave., Monday-Friday noon to dusk when at or near 100 degrees.

▪ Reedley, Palm Village Retirement Community: 703 W. Herbert Ave., Monday-Friday noon to dusk when at or near 100 degrees.

▪ Sanger Senior Center: 730 Recreation Ave. Monday-Friday 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

▪ Sanger Chamber of Commerce: 1789 Jensen Ave. Suite B, Noon to 6 p.m. when over 105 degrees.

Madera County

“Whenever it is over 105 degrees our cooling centers kick on,” said Mark Etheridge, business manager for the city of Madera. The city’s two centers will also be open if it is over 100 degrees on consecutive days.

If necessary, a third location at the Madera Adult Day Care-Respite at 322 W. Sixth St. can open up.

“The decision point is based more on people needing to stay and use the facilities than on temperature,” Etheridge said.

▪ Madera, Frank Bergon Senior Center: 283 South D. St., Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

▪ Madera, Pan Am Community Center: 708 E. Sherwood Way, Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Residents may contact Dial-a-Ride at (559) 661-7433 for transportation.

▪ Madera Ranchos, Rancho Hills Senior Center: 37739 Berkshire Dr., Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

▪ Coarsegold Community Center: 35540 Highway 41, Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

▪ Yosemite Lakes Park Clubhouse: 30250 Yosemite Springs Parkway, Daily 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., water available Monday-Friday, clubhouse office hours 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

▪ Oakhurst, Sierra Senior Center: 49111 Cinder Lane, Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

▪ North Fork, Grace Community Church: 56442 Road 200, Monday-Friday 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

▪ Chowchilla Senior Center: 820 W. Robertson Blvd., Monday - Friday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Kings County

Kings County does not have cooling centers, said Elizabeth Gazarek, Kings County Department of Public Health Management Analyst. “We have cool places.” Examples of cool places include a library or mall.

“We just ask our cool places to have the doors open and the air conditioning on during regular business hours,” Gazarek said.

Tulare County

Tammie Weyker, of Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency, said Tulare County follows the state’s guidelines for excessive heat. “We go into Phase 2 once the National Weather Service issues an excessive heat warning of at least 105 degrees, if it will not cool down below 80 degrees at night and if the forecast lasts for at least two consecutive days.”
