Driver killed after broadside collision in Fresno County. Highway Patrol investigating

The driver of a 1996 Toyota Corolla died Saturday morning when he collided with a pickup near Kerman, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Sgt. Mike Salas said the crash took place around 9 a.m. as the unidentified 65-year-old Corolla driver was westbound on Kamm Avenue approaching Marks Avenue when he failed to yield for a stop sign at Marks.

He was broadsided by a 2015 Chevrolet pickup pulling a cattle trailer north on Marks. Drivers on Marks have the right-of-way. The 28-year-old driver of the pickup was unable to avoid the collision, and the Toyota driver died at the scene in Fresno County.

It was not immediately known whether drugs or alcohol played a part in the fatal collision.
