With classes being taught online due to the coronavirus pandemic to start the school year, the coats will be stored for the time being by the Salvation Army.

According to the national charity organization One Warm Coat, more than 40 million Americans have filed for unemployment since the COVID-19 pandemic began and the need for coats this upcoming winter will be greater than ever.

The charity organization stated that approximately 200,000 people die each year from the cold, and that children are unable to regulate their body temperatures as well as adults.

So the number of coats needed to properly clothe children is expected to be greater this winter than past years.
