Hundreds more COVID-19 cases in Fresno County, but hospitalizations see downward trend
Hospitalizations are trending downward in the central San Joaquin Valley as counties continue to record cases of COVID-19, according to new coronavirus data published on Monday.
Fresno County added 574 cases of coronavirus since Sunday, according to the California Department of Public Health.
The county total is now at 23,414 total cases since the pandemic began. Of those, 10,220 people have recovered and 273 remain hospitalized; 226 people have died since March.
The county did not add new hospitalizations as of Monday’s update, and according to data from the state health department, hospitalizations are slowly decreasing in Fresno County. The number reached 583 on Aug. 3, and as of Sunday it was 452 Valleywide.
However, counties continue to increase cases.
Tulare County added 314 cases, and has now recorded 13,431 cases since early this spring.
Additionally, Tulare County reported six new deaths Monday, raising the total to 206. It’s the same total that was recorded in the entire month of July, with one week of Augsut left.
In Madera County, one new death was recorded along with 145 new cases as of Monday; a total of 50 people have died there. The county’s total number of COVID-19 cases has reached 3,484.
Merced County recorded seven new deaths, adding to the total of 106. So far, that county has recorded 7,653 cases since the pandemic began.
Mariposa County added only one case Monday, for a total of 70 cases since they began recording COVID-19 cases. Only two people there have died.
