Man sitting in the middle of a Fresno street run over, killed

A man who was sitting in the middle of an east-central Fresno street was run over and killed Wednesday evening, according to Fresno police.

Lt. Bill Dooley said officers and paramedics arrived around 9:30 p.m. at the incident near Fedora and Maple avenues, where the man was pronounced dead at the scene. He was identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as Jesus Godines, 46, of Fresno.

It is unclear why Godines was sitting in the middle of the roadway.

Dooley said a woman who was driving home with her daughter in a Nissan Pathfinder was traveling southbound on Maple when she suddenly noticed Godines sitting in the middle of the street.

She was unable to swerve and the Pathfinder hit Godines, Dooley said.

Neither drugs nor alcohol are believed to have played a factor in the fatality, and the woman was cooperating with police, Dooley added.

Godines lived in the area, Dooley said.
