Family outing at Lake Kaweah turns tragic when a man drowns, deputies say

A 35-year-old man drowned Wednesday afternoon at Lake Kaweah, the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was identified as Joshua Leever of Springviille.

Family members told deputies that Leever had been swimming around noon near the back of the boat they were in. He wasn’t wearing a life jacket when he went under and didn’t come back up.

Deputies said the man drowned in the northeast end of the lake, near the Kaweah Recreational Boat Launch.

Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected, deputies said.
