Update: Pilot rescued after private plane goes down in Sequoia National Forest

A private plane crashed Saturday in Sequoia National Forest but the pilot, who was the only person onboard, was rescued, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office.

The pilot was airlifted by a California Highway Patrol helicopter to a local hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

The crash, reported about 11 a.m., was in the Golden Trout Wilderness, according to the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office. The wilderness zone is split between Sequoia and Inyo national forests.

An initial report by authorities incorrectly stated the site was in Sierra National Forest.
