Woman crashes into Fresno canal, rescued from submerged car

A woman was rescued from a fast-moving Fresno canal Monday morning after her car careened off the road and into the water, where the vehicle was completely submerged.

The crash took place shortly before 8:30 a.m. on northbound Temperance Avenue north of McKinley Avenue, where the car veered into the water. Bystanders were able to pull her to safety, and she was rushed to the hospital, where her condition was not immediately available.

A police spokesman said the cause of the crash was being investigated, but initially, it was believed that she fell asleep at the wheel.
