Driver loses control of pickup on Madera road, dies after crashing into pole

A 30-year-old man was killed early Wednesday when he lost control of his pickup on Avenue 12 in Madera County, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The crash happened about 12:30 a.m. as the driver of a Chevrolet Avalanche was westbound near Road 32 when he drifted off the roadway and slammed into a utility pole. He died at the scene.
