Wildfire in Madera foothills burns structures, threatens more and prompts evacuations

LATEST COVERAGE

A wildfire broke out Saturday evening in the foothills near Kerckhoff Lake in Madera County, destroying several structures and threatening damage to others.

The blaze — labeled the Power Fire — started about 6 p.m., Cal Fire Madera spokeswoman Jamie Williams said. It was not known if any homes were among the structures threatened or destroyed.

As of 7:58 p.m., according to the Cal Fire incident page, the fire was up to 100 acres with 0% containment. No injuries were reported and an investigation into the cause was continuing.

A mandatory evacuation order was issued for the Corrine Lake area.

The evacuations covered Road 222 from Carmen Ranch Road to Kerckhoff Lake; Corrine Lake Road from Roads 222 to 235, including Box Canyon Road; and Road 235 from Kerckhoff Lake to Corrine Lake Road.

Road 222 is closed at Road 200 to the bridge where Road 235 begins.

Fresno County Fire sent three engines and a bulldozer to assist Cal Fire Madera.

Another foothill fire broke out in the same area as the Power Fire. This one, named the Lark Fire, is along Powerhouse Road between North Fork and Auberry.

It is unknown how many acres were burned in the second blaze, but containment reached 100% by late Saturday.
