A fiery crash early Saturday morning near Strathmore resulted in the deaths of two people, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP reported the crash happened around 1 a.m. on Avenue 196 west of Road 236. Preliminary findings have determined that a 2015 Honda was westbound on Avenue 196 when the unidentified driver allowed the car to drift onto the right shoulder of the road and into a concrete bridge abutment.

The car caught fire with both the driver and passenger inside. Both died at the scene.

The crash is under investigation. CHP says it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
