She’s calling attention to Native American injustices one step at a time

Elizabeth Perez is running for a city council seat – and something much bigger.

She is nearing the end of a 215-mile run (it might turn out to be longer, she admits) from Fort Tejon to Madera. She intends for the run to call attention to Native American social injustice.

Perez says she was born in Fresno and is a member of the North Fork Mono Indian tribe.

She’s a Navy veteran who settled in the San Diego suburb of Vista, where she’s running for city council.

She chose Fort Tejon as her starting point Tuesday because that’s where many California Native Americans were forced to go during roundups in the 1800s.
