108 Fresno County Jail inmates test positive for the coronavirus. More results pending

At least 108 inmates inside the Fresno County’s North Annex jail have tested positive for the coronavirus, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.

The sheriff’s office said it administered 1,200 COVID-19 tests this week.

Just 400 results have come back and the other 800 are expected by Saturday, department spokesman Tony Botti said.

The 108 positive inmates are being quarantined on the fourth floor.

Other inmates who tested negative and others awaiting results are not being moved and remain in quarantine where they’ve been housed for the past week, Botti said.

The results come after three correctional officers at the jail tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this week.

The news also comes after last week’s announcement that 13 inmates tested positive for COVID-19 prior to being transferred to Wasco State Prison.
