Wildfire smoke impacting air quality in Fresno area

Multiple wildfires in the Fresno and Madera regions are degrading air quality and increasing the risk to vulnerable populations, according to San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution officials.

The fires include the Sycamore Fire south of Tollhouse, which was last reported at 60% contained, and the Frontier Fire near Auberry.

Residents were being cautioned to limit their exposure to the smoke whenever possible. Small particles released by the wildfires can trigger asthma attacks, chronic bronchitis and increase the risk of heart attack and lung disease. Especially vulnerable populations include those with respiratory conditions, including those with COVID-19 infections and the elderly.

Air Quality information is available at myRAAN.com or by visiting www.valleyair.org/wildfires.
