Another COVID-19 death in Fresno County, where the cases rose by 32

Fresno County tallied another death on Wednesday related to the coronavirus as well as 32 new positive cases, according to health officials.

That makes for 49 fatal cases related to COVID-19 in Fresno County, where 2,318 people have tested positive, the latest numbers show.

The new numbers come the same day that counties around the state were notified that bars and gyms could prepare to open on Friday. The Fresno Chaffee Zoo is set to open the same day, though most family entertainment must stay shuttered another two weeks.

The Fresno County death counts related to the virus have accelerated, according to Dr. Rais Vohra, the county’s interim health officer. He urged residents to protect themselves and others.

“Please take it seriously,” he said. “Please wear your mask when you’re out and about.”

Two more people have died in Tulare County of illness related to the coronavirus, as the county added 51 new positive cases in its updated report on Wednesday.

Ninety-six people have died in the county from causes related to COVID-19, and 2,432 have tested positive through Wednesday.

Kings County had 714 positive cases on Wednesday, which is 46 more than the previous day. Six deaths remain the unchanged total of fatal cases.

Also, in Kings, 974 inmates have been infected through Wednesday, five more than the day before. No deaths have been reported there.

Madera County added four new cases but no new deaths to total 178 and three, respectively.

Merced County reported 15 new cases of the virus, which now totals 387 cases. Seven people have died there since the beginning of the pandemic, but no new deaths were tallied Wednesday.

Mariposa County’s tally hasn’t changed in weeks. One person has died and 16 have contracted the infection.

More than 1.9 million people have tested positive for the coronavirus, which has killed more than 112,000 people, according to The COVID Tracking Project and Johns Hopkins University CSSE. Of those fatal cases, more than 4,700 were from California.
