2 killed, 1 seriously injured in highway crash south of Fresno on Memorial Day

Two people were killed and another seriously injured in a solo vehicle crash early Monday in rural Fresno County.

California Highway Patrol said the fatal crash occurred around 3 a.m. along northbound Highway 41 at Conejo Avenue, southeast of Caruthers.

Tyler Woods, 25, of Fresno was driving a Toyota Corolla and struck a metal light post on the northeast corner of the intersection, CHP said.

Woods sustained major injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

His two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene of the collision. The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified them Monday morning as Rachel Krumm, 35, and Joseph Camacho, 26, both of Fresno.

CHP said Krumm was not wearing a seat belt in the backseat of the car. Camacho was riding in the front passenger seat.

CHP said alcohol or drugs don’t appear to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

The collision damaged the traffic signal at Highway 41 and Conejo Avenue, which was flashing red early Monday, pending repairs from Caltrans.
