3 women killed in pickup crash south of Exeter, CHP reports
Three women all age 21 were killed early Monday in a solo-vehicle crash south of Exeter, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash took place about 1:20 a.m. at the Avenue 256 intersection with Highway 65. The identities of the victims were not released, pending notification of family.
The CHP said the driver was westbound on 256 in a 2005 Ford pickup when she failed to yield for a stop sign at 65, swerved to the right and crashed into an olive tree, continued into the orchard and slammed into a second olive tree. The driver was thrown from the pickup and the front passenger was partially ejected. A passenger in the back seat remained in the truck and all three died at the scene.
The CHP said alcohol may have contributed to the crash.
