Fresno County civil courthouse closed due to coronavirus concerns

The B.F. Sisk courthouse in downtown Fresno, which is used primarily for Fresno County civil suits, shut down after two employees had contact with a person who tested positive for the coronavirus, Superior Court officials announced Wednesday.

Though the two employees have not tested positive themselves for COVID-19, the courthouse, which is located at 1130 O Street, will remain closed until further notice.

“This action was taken with the health and safety of the court employees, justice partners and the public in mind,” the courthouse said in a news release.

The Fresno Superior Court has limited operations in the midst of the public health emergency and has taken a variety of precautions in hopes of slowing the spread of COVID-19, the coronavirus.

Most criminal and civil jury trials have been suspended. Instead, most hearings are done via phone and video, reducing the number of employees in the courthouse each day. Also, the court system is using enhanced cleaning procedures in its buildings.
